Who we write for
Shoppers across the United States ordering photo books, calendars and prints for family, friends and colleagues during the holidays and the new year.
Everything here lives in one category, Photo Gifts: photo books and albums, calendars, canvas and metal prints, file preparation and resolution, and last-minute order planning.
The idea behind the site
A photo gift is an emotional purchase made with a file that may be too small, a crop that cuts off the best face and a shipping deadline that arrives faster than expected. The result is either a keepsake that looks sharp or a blurry book that cannot be returned.
Preparing photos properly, choosing the right format for the gift and ordering early enough to allow for proofs and shipping turn a risky order into a dependable one.
Principles
- We start from the file. A print is only as sharp as the image sent to it, and resolution, crop and color decide the result.
- We match the format to the photo. A wide landscape and a close family portrait suit different products, and we explain why.
- We say when a simple print is enough. A single well-framed print can be more meaningful than a large book nobody opens.
- We name the trade-off. Canvas is textured and warm, metal is sharp and modern, paper is traditional. Each costs and ages differently.
- We update rather than repost. Product sizes and turnaround times change, and the article is revised when they do.
Who writes here
Oscar Lind, Editor. Oscar spent ten years in photo labs and print production in Minnesota, checking thousands of files before they reached the press. Most disappointing gifts he saw came from low-resolution files and crops that cut off faces, which is why this site begins with the file.
Where we stop
Privacy and data handling. Uploading family photos transfers data to a third party. Read the privacy and retention terms before uploading.
Image rights and licensing. Only upload images you have the right to use. We do not give copyright or licensing advice.
Warranty and return disputes. We explain common terms. We do not interpret your agreement or assess a damaged order.
Funding
Running Photo Gift Lab costs money, and two things cover it: display ads selected by third-party networks, and the occasional affiliate link. We never see the ads beforehand, advertisers cannot touch our copy, and a commission has never changed a conclusion — a good share of our advice is to order one standout product rather than a large set of extras, which earns us the least. The details are in the Disclaimer.
Corrections
Nobody is right all the time. Product sizes, prices and deadlines change, and we occasionally miss a revision. Use the contact form to point out a mistake; we check it against the source, correct the article and say what we changed.
Contact us
Questions, disagreements and topic suggestions are welcome through our Contact page. We cannot see your photos, but we can usually tell you which two settings to check in the file before you order.
